Slidesgo and other AI presentation tools

A introduction to Slidesgo, how to use it and which alternatives are available

{toc}

What is Slidesgo?

Slidesgo is a large slide template gallery for Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint. In fact, Slidesgo is part of a broader set of resources like Freepik (vectors, images), Flaticon (icons), and Videvo (videos and motion graphics). The latest addition to Slidesgo is an AI presentation maker, which goes beyond standardized templates and generates slides using generative AI.

Like other AI presentation generators, Slidesgo builds a draft slide deck in minutes based on a written prompt that you provide. One of Slidego’s major differentiating features is the connection with Wepik, another sister project. Wepik allows you to edit the slides easily after they have been generated by the AI. You also get access to icons and pictures from Freepik and Flaticon.

How to use Slidesgo

Step 1: Go to Slidesgo and try out AI presentations

You can start the process without logging in by pressing “Try now”. Note that you will be asked to log in or create an account after you generate the presentation. You can create a free account at this point.

Step 2: Open the presentation maker

This screen gives you a good understanding of the features of Slidesgo’s AI slide maker. Have a scan through the text and press “Get started” to try and make your own presentation.

Step 3: Tell Slidesgo what kind of presentation you want

This is the most important section. Slidesgo allows you to give the AI guidance along three areas:

  1. Topic: This is where you write a short brief describing what you want the presentation to be about.
  2. Style: Slidesgo provides six different themes for you to choose from.
  3. Writing tone: Sometimes you want a presentation to be very formal and other times you may want a more jovial tone. This lets you adjust for that.

Before the presentation is created you will have to log in or create a free account. You will be prompted to do so after pressing “Generate presentation”.

Step 4: Edit your presentation

You might notice that you are now on Wepik.com rather than Slidesgo.com – Wepik is a sister product to Slidesgo and provides the slide editing capabilities needed to complete your slides. This is the step where you can add in your own content and make any aesthetic changes that you see fit.

Alternatives to Slidesgo

Depending on your use case, you might need a tool that focuses on a different set of priorities. Here are some options for different types of AI presentation tools:

  1. Plus AI – a Slidesgo alternative for Google Slides
  2. Tome – an alternative to Slidesgo for a new type of presentation
  3. Gamma – a Slidesgo alternative for polished, professional presentations
  4. Simplified.com – a Slidesgo alternative for more than presentations
  5. Canva Magic Design – a colorful design-first Slidesgo alternative

1. Plus AI – a Slidesgo alternative for Google Slides

Slidesgo is a standalone tool. This means that Google Slides users have to use Slidesgo instead of Google Slides. Plus AI is an AI presentation maker built on top of Google Slides, allowing for AI-generated presentations within Google Slides.

Plus AI is built to "co-write" slides with you rather than leave you with a template to fend for yourself. Simply put, Plus AI helps you create an outline, build a first draft, and suggest additional edits to your slides. Plus AI differs from other options by allowing you to use your own data in the presentations through Plus’s Snapshot technology. Snapshots let you grab charts from any app/tool, embed them in your slide, and refresh the data with the click of a button whenever data changes.

2. Tome – an alternative to Slidesgo for a new type of presentation

As the name suggests, Slidesgo focuses on slides as we know them, whereas Tome is a storytelling tool that aims to recreate how we create presentations altogether. Tome’s alternative approach has proven to be very popular, as the tool reached 1 million users 134 days after launch, the fastest ever for a productivity tool.

Similar to Slidesgo Tome allows users to build presentations based on a text prompt. The output comes out as a presentation organized by a table of contents, including text, introduction slides, and AI-generated images to go along with the slides. Tome’s aesthetics immediately stand out as much cleaner than you might expect from a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation; for example, presentations default to a black background, white text, and images that fit perfectly with this.

3. Gamma - a Slidesgo alternative focused on polished, professional presentations

Gamma creates presentations that have a similar look and feel to Tome, and veer away from the more traditional slide formats of Slidesgo. Gamma’s AI creates presentations that target professional users, whereas Slidesgo has a broader appeal. Gamma’s focus on professional users is reflected in the business-oriented templates such as “Company Fact Sheet,” “Sales Presentation,” and “Deal Review.” Gamma also includes Q&As within presentations, custom branding, and analytics to track presentation views.

4. Simplified.com – an alternative to Slidesgo for more than presentations

Slidesgo is focused on slides, as the name suggests, but sometimes you need an app that can do more than slides. Simplified falls under that category – the app includes an AI presentation generator, just like Slidesgo, but it also has other AI offerings, including copywriting, video editing, and graphic design.

The app has several features that differentiate it from Slidesgo, including the ability to turn presentations into videos. This allows you to create presentation-style video content quickly and easily. Simplified focuses on creating presentation templates, which users can use to flesh out their content.

5. Canva Magic Design – a Slidesgo alternative focused on colorful aesthetics

Canva is a design-first tool, and this spills into their AI slide generator. Slidesgo’s presentations are simple without too much fanfare. Canva’s AI-generated slides have a much stronger emphasis on colorful, yet clean aesthetics, which is unsurprising for a tool generated by Canva.

Canva provides a hand-held experience when creating presentations. Since Canva is a design-first tool, this experience focuses on aesthetic changes. It includes auto-adjusting design elements and suggestions for colors, styles, fonts, images, and layouts.

Find the perfect AI presentation tool for you

There are many different tools to choose from if you are looking to speed up your presentation workflows, and not all of them are right for everyone. For example, if you're a business that uses Google Slides, you probably want a tool like Plus AI that can create AI slides directly within Google Slides.
